(LEBANON, Ill., Jan. 6)—The McKendree College hockey team returned from the holiday break and returned to its winning ways with an 11-1 victory Friday at home against Robert Morris College.
Four different players scored two goals as the Bearcats extended their season-high win streak to nine games. McKendree is now 15-12-1 overall and will host Robert Morris again Saturday at 3 p.m. at the U.S. Ice Sports Complex in Fairview Heights.
McKendree jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first period before the Eagles chipped the deficit to 3-1 at the end of the period. The Bearcats put the game away by reeling off eight unanswered goals to end the contest. The 10-goal win marked McKendree’s largest margin of victory this season.
Sophomore center Kyle Ilges (Highland, Ill./Highland) (Highland, Ill./Highland), freshman center Nick Dreyer (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo), sophomore center Scott Roberts (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) (Philadelphia, Pa./Bensalem) and sophomore defenseman Shawn McBride (Waterloo, Ill./Waterloo) (Waterloo, Ill.) each tallied two goals to lead the way for the Bearcats.
Freshman Mike Stier (Belleville, Illinois/) (Belleville, Ill./Belleville West) made 46 saves to earn the victory in goal for McKendree.
